In a fixed order: the subtotal adds up every line item (quantity times rate), then the discount is subtracted, then tax is applied to the discounted subtotal, and the grand total is the discounted subtotal plus the tax. A flat discount can never push the subtotal below zero.

No. Everything happens in your browser with JavaScript only. Your names, addresses, and invoice data are never sent to a server, stored online, or logged.

Payment terms, accepted payment methods, a thank-you message, or anything else the client should see. Notes print at the bottom of the invoice.

It is good practice. New invoices default to INV plus the date, for example INV-20261001-001. Saved drafts are stored under their invoice number, so unique numbers make each draft easy to find again.
