Type or paste in both boxes — the diff updates as you type.

How to compare two texts and find differences

Eyeballing two long versions of the same document is how small changes slip through — a tweaked number in a contract, a dropped paragraph in an essay, one wrong line in a config file. A diff checker does the tedious comparison for you, line by line, and shows only what actually changed.

  1. Paste the original into the left box and the modified version into the right box. The diff updates as you type.
  2. Read the colors: red lines with a minus were removed, green lines with a plus were added, plain lines are unchanged.
  3. Look at the highlights inside red/green pairs — they mark the exact changed words, so you don't re-read whole lines.
  4. Swap sides if you pasted them backwards; Clear wipes both boxes (and the autosaved draft).

Reading the diff: red, green, and highlighted words

The comparison is line-based: it finds the longest sequence of lines the two texts share, then marks everything else as removed or added. When a line was edited rather than fully replaced, you see a red line directly above its green replacement, with the changed words highlighted in both — the fastest way to see that "2025" became "2026" or "shall" became "may".

Good uses: essays, code, and contracts

Writers use diff checkers to review a revised draft against the original; programmers compare config files or code before and after a change; anyone reviewing a contract pastes the old and new versions to catch every altered clause. The comparison is exact and case-sensitive — even one changed character shows up.

How does this text diff checker work?

Paste your original text on the left and the modified version on the right. The tool compares them line by line using a longest-common-subsequence algorithm: unchanged lines stay plain, removed lines turn red with a minus sign, added lines turn green with a plus sign, and changed words inside paired lines are highlighted so you can see exactly what changed.

How do I compare two texts online?

Type or paste the first version into the Original box and the second into the Modified box above — the diff updates automatically as you type. Use the Compare button to refresh instantly, Swap to flip the two sides, and Clear to start over. No account, no upload, no waiting.

What do the red and green lines mean?

Red lines with a minus sign were removed from the original; green lines with a plus sign were added in the modified version. When a line was edited rather than added or removed outright, you will see a red-green pair with the changed words highlighted in each, so the exact edit stands out.

Can I use the diff checker for code or documents?

Yes. It works on anything line-based: essays and drafts, source code, contracts, config files, or lists. The comparison is exact and case-sensitive, including whitespace, so even a single changed character shows up.

Is there a size limit for the diff checker?

Each side handles up to 2,000 lines comfortably. Past that you will see a friendly note suggesting a smaller chunk — the limit keeps the page fast instead of freezing your tab on enormous pastes.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. The entire comparison runs in JavaScript in your browser on your own device. Your text never leaves your computer or phone — nothing is uploaded, stored, or tracked.
